Phillips Wake-Up Light with Dock for iPod

OK, techno geeks, here is a new one for all of you snooze hounds out there, courtesy of Philips®. The Philips Wake up light with iPod dock combines your iPod with a timed alarm clock that gradually gets brighter over a 30 minute period, and then triggers your iPod to kick in with your favorite tune or news broadcast. This unit features an FM radio, or nature sounds that let you arise gradually from your somnambulence.  It doubles as a bedside light as well, combining your clock radio and light into one new entity.

So instead of hearing that BEEP-BEEP-BEEP sound that could give anyone a coronary, now you can wake up to the gentle sounds of nature, or the mindless din of Rob Zombie.

Great, yet another gadget to clutter up my end table!  Personally, I would suggest a wall swing arm lamp from our site instead of this.  This looks like something out of the Woody Allen movie Sleeper. Hey, give me another hit of that Orb, will you?

Tides Modern Nine-Lamp Chandelier

This is a perfunctory light fixture as far as contemporary chandeliers go. Hinkley lighting has a tendency to design for the upper crust contingent, and the Tides Modern Nine-Lamp Chandelier is no exception to that rule. This contemporary chandelier measures 34” in diameter by 32” tall, and comes with ten feet of chain and twelve feet of lead wire, so you can hang it high. It requires nine 60 watt candelabra based bulbs, which you can supply yourself, thank you very much. The hand blown glass on this fixture disperses the light via swirled glass, while the inside of the shade is etched in opal.  The effect is like a glowing piece of jewelry, hovering over your dining room. Dazzle your friends and annoy your neighbors with this Hinkley Lighting chandelier. They’ll think you dropped a fortune on it.

I won’t tell if you don’t.

Yanaka Crystal Ten Light Chandelier

MY FIXTURE FROM TOKYO!

New to our website, Trans Globe Lighting offer some of the most unusual and elegant contemporary chandeliers on the market. With a definite Japanese influence, the Yanaka Crystal Ten Light Chandelier (product page: http://www.affordablelamps.com/tra-mdn-555.html) conjures up visions of old world Tokyo with the dew drop crystals hanging from gleaming strands of metallic branches. This fixture creates a fusion between old world Tokyo and the new Japan, with its obsession on lights. The Yanaka uses ten 20 watt G4 halogen bulbs, and measures 23.25” in diameter, and hangs down 27.5” from the ceiling. Great for lighting your indoor Zen garden, dining room, living room, or even a hotel lobby. The chrome is the key for the modern look, but the feel is still quite Japanese traditional. At $466.00, this is an absolute steal!

Valencia Nautical Wall Sconce - 13 inches tall

One might call this a lampwork orange. The 13″ Valencia Nautical Wall Sconce (product page: http://www.affordablelamps.com/arr-vb-7nr.html) from Arroyo Craftsman is a juicy, salty dog of a fixture, completely at home in a coastal, nautical environment. The Valencia gives off an orange glow, and its crusty exterior is a seaworthy addition for any landlubber home. Lantern style nautical wall sconces are all the rage now, but this style has been around for centuries, and there is a good reason. These Arroyo Craftsman hand made nautical wall sconces are built to last, and withstand the elements. The Valencia Nautical Wall Sconce measures 5.125″ wide by 13″ high, and extends out 9.875″, and uses one 100 watt incandescent, or the compact fluorescent equivalent. Hey, even sailors can go green, matey!

Archer Outdoor Downlight Wall Washer - Low Voltage

Appropriately named, the Archer Outdoor Downlight Wall Washer (product page: http://www.affordablelamps.com/acc-23062led.html) looks like the tip of an arrow, facing downward. This five watt 12 Volt LED wall sconce from Access Lighting is energy efficient, CETL listed for wet locations like your garage or porch, is ADA compliant, and measures 4.75” wide by 7” tall, with a 2.75” extension. Exterior LED Lighting fixtures such as this are great, and for those of you saddled with energy requirements for your home such as Title 24, where you need to go green. So, although this is not a “Green Arrow,” this exterior LED wall lighting fixture in bronze or satin will do the job, and stop the crime of energy waste.

Wrought Iron Lighting; Mosaic
By: Alan Williams  |  July 28th, 2009

Mosaic Medium Wall Sconce

Almost as if this was cast during the Bronze Age, the Mosaic Medium wall sconce (product page: http://www.affordablelamps.com/hub-21-7624.html) seems like it is truly from another era. The design uses four back plates with a half cylinder positioned in the center which spills the light all over, and shine through a red art glass piece. The contrast is stunning, and this fixture is ideal for brick and stone structures, modern or rustic dwellings, town homes or ranch houses. The Hubbardton Forge Mosaic would look great in an artist loft, museum or coffee house as well. The wrought iron lighting construction, the staple of all Hubbardton Forge fixtures, looks regal in the bronze finish. The Mosaic measures 10” square, and extends 3.6” out, and uses one G9 100 watt bulb. The price, at $320.00 is more than reasonable. The look, timeless.
