“We are the Metrons.”
Star Trek, episode 19.

Who could forget these omnipotent beings from the classic Star Trek episode “Arena,” written by the masterful science fiction great Frederic Brown? It has always been my favorite Trek episode. Ever wonder what the Metrons use for lighting? Well here it is, the Metra Table Lamp (product page: http://www.affordablelamps.com/hub-26-4432.html) from Hubbardton Forge. As far as wrought iron table lamps go, this one is old world wise, much like the Metron consortium. The Metra features curving bars of iron joined by brackets, supporting an inverted basin shade. It measures 19” high with a 7” base, and uses four G 40 watt bulbs. The Metra is 1960’s future chic, retro forward future fashion, and perfect for those of you who boldly go where no lighting designers go before. Plus, you can use this light when you assemble the need components to battle the Gorn.
(We would like to apologize in advance for the geeky nature of this particular lighting blog, but the author was waxing nostalgic, and with a name like Metra, he could not resist the analogy, strained though it might be.)
