Kozo Lamp

“In a world gone mad, the machines have destroyed everything. Now it is our turn to put it back together.”

GIZMODO had a story about a new lamp and it’s piping HOT! This industrial chic fitted-pipe desk lamp, called the Kozo, reminds me of the movie 9, released last year. It was an animated tale of a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by machines, but with one catch: the robots were to be the salvation. The readers on the GIZMODO blog are quick to react to the $200.00 price tag for this pipefiguaration, but if you look at our selection of desk lamps, the prices run from about $50.00 to over $500.00, so really, it is all about perception. This Kozo is made here in the USA, or can be built for parts at your local hardware store for $10.00 to $20.00.

Eva Ceiling Fan

Now this is a real Desperate Housewives Fan. I mean, literally. With it’s jet engine design, choice of either Brushed Stainless Steel finish with Light Oak blades, Oil-Brushed Bronze finish with Cherry blades or Satin Black finish with Satin Black blades, the Eva contemporary ceiling fan (product page: http://www.affordablelamps.com/kic-300121.html) from Kichler Lighting has got the ceiling fans market beat six ways from Sunday’s re-runs. The Eva measures 46” in diameter, up to 23.5” in height, uses one 100 watt E-11 halogen lamp and features the CoolTouch® system.  This jet-age marvel with blow away the competition, along with all of the hot air from the local commercials. So be just like the Parker’s, and get blowing in the wind, of Kichler’s breakthrough in Fandom!

Tissage Pendant Light

Is it just me or do these new contemporary pendant lights from Lite Source look like Band-Aids? Yes, the Tissage features minimalist design and a laser-cut beige fabric shade along with a three cable suspension system. The Tissage (product page: http://www.affordablelamps.com/ls-19527.html) uses three 40 watt medium bulbs and measures 18.5” in diameter, with a maximum height of 68”. It doesn’t help that is has a name like Tissage, however. Sound too much like tissue.  Perhaps this is the perfect fixture for a hospital board room. I can just hear Nurse Jackie bellyaching about it now. Yeah, that’s the ticket! Showtime should order up a bunch of these and put the Nurse Jackie logo on them. Now, that’s marketing.

I can’t wait for the Dexter lamp.

Urn Moderne Lamp

Ooh, I like this one. The fine lathe work done on this Sonneman Lighting table lamp (product page: http://www.affordablelamps.com/son-6108.html) gives this one a bullet-like feel. The misnomer of “Urn” aside, this fixture measures 26” in diameter by 30.5” in height with a 6” base, and uses two 75 watt bulbs. Sonneman should have called it the Bullitt, ala the Steve McQueen movie, or at least Laurell Hamilton’s new Anita Blake novel, Bullet. Urn? Really? Where’s the fun in that? This is one of the coolest table lamps to come around in a while, and deserves a better moniker. So I say unto thee, write Sonneman Lighting and tell them to change the name.

Lightweights Pendant

I would like to heap praise upon the Lightweights contemporary fluorescent drum pendant light (product page: http://www.affordablelamps.com/son-3143-10.html), but I just can’t do it, due to their image selection. This is a case where Sonneman Lighting blew it in their marketing and catalog images. These brushed aluminum pendant lighting fixtures, as well as the entire Lightweights collection, are pictured in black. Yet there are eight other color options that are absolutely lovely, such as fuchsia, red, orange, green, silver or blue, that are far more attractive than the file photos provided. So it is up to you, dear consumer, to use your imagination and picture these bell shaped fixtures using the color key provided.  The Lightweights measure 17” by 19”, and use two 18 watt GU24 Base Fluorescent bulbs, plus come with 120″ of adjustable cord. So Sonneman, do not ask who the bell tolls for, it toll for thee.
