cherry-tree

I have been to Kentucky twice in my life, back in December 1989  and later May 1990. I went their to meet up with my friend James, whom I  met while travelling throughout Europe back in the summer of 1979. James was a wonderful tour guide, and also a ruthless chess player. He showed me the old Louisville and the newer parts of town as well as Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, plus Fort Knox and the astonishing Mammoth Caverns

I think I will have to go back, to visit Stephen Baldwin’s Kansai Japanese Steak House. Stephen ordered from us in February of this year, and he has installed thirteen of the Cherry Tree Aurora Asian Tall Wall Sconces in his restaurant. I’ll let the photos do the talking here. Needless to say, they blend. Now pass me the sake.

WHY I LIKE KICHLER LIGHTING

by Alan Williams

Kichler Lighting

Kichler Lighting

Kichler Lighting has become my favorite light manufacturing company of late, thanks to their excellent customer service. Kichler is the only company that issues RGAs (Return Goods Authorizations) on the spot, checks stock immediately, and offers three different shipping locations for their excellent lamps, so the customer can get their product quicker. Plus, all of the customer service people over there are very nice, cordial and professional. And they have a great lighting inventory with few back orders.

Hooray for Light Bulbs

Hooray for Light Bulbs

And now, they have informed me that they carry the FSKJDK – 40 220 volt bulbs, making it easy for those lamp experts located overseas to install Kichler Lighting wall sconces, chandeliers or vanity fixtures in countries that do not have AC 120 volt. These bulbs come in 10 packs for $79.99 a pack, and they will make your lighting fixture installation a breeze.

So, if you need to move to Europe and want to take your chic, contemporary lamps with you, fear not. These bulbs will make it happen for you.

Here is a new product that caught my eye. It is from Light Wave out of China, whose motto is “Green Lighting, Green World.”  These are outdoor step recessed lights, with a LED 3 watt output, 30 degree beam angle and choice of colors like blue, green, cool white, etc. We do not have a relationship with this manufacturer, but there is a constant demand for outdoor LED fixtures, and so I would like to open this up to the public at large. Would you like www.affordablelamps.com to carry this line? If I get at least 25 responses. I will put the deal in motion. You may call this American Lighting Idol! You may call toll free at 1-800-MY-LAMPS (1-800-695-2677), or email us at info@1800mylamps.net.  Lines will be open 24/7, and you may vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Voting will close  on Friday, April 1st, at high noon.

International Orders
By:  |  March 8th, 2011

blog03-07-11

We get a lot of emails about International orders and I thought I would take this time to answer the general questions.

We ship to the lower 48 states for free unless otherwise indicated and shipping to Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and Guam have additional charges that will require a quote with the same applying to Canada. We will ship there but they also require a quote and you are also responsible for duties, brokerage fees and taxes in Canada.
For all other countries, we suggest you contact a freight forwarding company in the USA that ships overseas.
Here is a website to get you started:  http://www.freightforwarders.com/

We can ship to them for free and they handle the rest with you.
Please also note that we do not accept International Credit Cards with the exception being Canada, instead, you can pay via International Money Order or Wire transfer. Contact info@1800mylamps.net for the Wire Transfer information and please send quote requests to Alan@1800mylamps.net since our system does not accept online International orders.
Please also note that most of our fixtures are 120 Volt or low voltage 12 Volt. Europe uses 220 volt  as do many other countries, so you may need to convert the systems on your end.
We have shipped all over the world, including Singapore, Mexico, the Middle East, Europe and Asia. The good thing is that you can get fixtures here that are never available overseas. The down side is that shipping can get a bit pricey. That is why we suggest a freight forwarder. I had recently quoted a lady from Estonia on a $1400.00 order where the UPS shipping quote turned out to be over $1000.00. Needless to say, she was a bit overwhelmed.  UPS and FED EX are no bargain for International orders. A freight forwarder can bring that price down by up to 25%. It is worth the extra effort on your part, and I will help out with a special discount as well. This saves us time and hassle, and it is better to deal with a professional shipping company familiar with all of the duties, customs, and tariffs. You will thank yourself for it.
